Chamilandu Bushcamp

Chamilandu is a magnificent camp on one of the South Luangwa’s ultimate river locations, perfect for a panoramic view of the wildlife that the river and its lagoons hold. There are only three stilted chalets here, allowing guests to experience true serenity on a riverbank beneath a soaring ebony grove. Every chalet has its own raised veranda to relax on during the heat of the day, and an open-fronted en-suite bathroom with the same encapsulating views over the tranquil waters. Two of the chalets are twins (2 queen-sized beds) and one is a double (king-sized bed), making room for just six guests, perfect for small groups. Guests can gaze at thea sunset from the comfort of the thatched bar and dining area, as they watch the wildlife go through their evening routines.

Island Bush Camp

Island Bush Camp is owned and operated by Ron & Anke Cowan, along with sister property Kafunta River Lodge located in the main Mfuwe area. Island Bush Camp is 2 1/2 hours drive south of Kafunta River Lodge (so about 3 1/2 hours from Mfuwe airport) in a very remote yet extremely game-rich area of the southern section of the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. It is in this complete solitude, far away from other crowds, that walking safaris are taking place in the mornings and afternoons. This seasonal, intimate camp lies under a grove of Mahogany trees, right on the banks of the Luangwa River. Island Bush Camp offers authentic bush accommodation in five elevated reed huts, with bucket showers and running water. The huts are open sided with a private verandah overlooking the Luangwa River. The camp runs on solar and paraffin lights, charging facilities are offered via inverters.

Flatdogs Camp

Flatdogs camp offers a blend of unique accommodations beside the South Luangwa National Park. From an opulent two bed-roomed tented house with private pool, to the wilder Jackalberry Treehouse built on platforms around four live Ebony trees, over-looking a game rich waterhole. The Chalet Suites are perfect for families and the Luxury Tents are spread out along the riverbank – offering the “Africa under canvas” experience – with elephant browsing around them and hippo grazing just outside. Even the Standard Safari Tents will spoil you with full en-suite facilities and panoramic landscapes. The South Luangwa National Park is one of the last great wildlife wonders of the world, covering 3,475 square miles of pristine wilderness in Zambia‘s Eastern Province. The South Luangwa has been visited by wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world since its creation as a National Park in 1972, it offers a safari experience unmatched by any others.

Kafunta River Lodge

Kafunta River Lodge is a classic Zambian safari lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, located on the floodplains of the Luangwa River, away from the busier area near the park’s Mfuwe gate. During the peak season the lodge accesses the national park via its own pontoon. The lodge was fully renovated in 2019 and offers a relaxed atmosphere with great attention to detail. Made up of just ten charming chalets, the lodge also boasts a spacious bar and dining area at the heart of the retreat – where delicious cuisine is utterly enjoyed. Built around a semi-evergreen wild mango tree, the chalets and main lodge are thatched in the traditional style, all offering superb panoramic views over the Luangwa River and the South Luangwa National Park. Adjacent to the bar is a refreshing infinity pool and the only natural hot spring tub in the Luangwa Valley.

Kaingo Camp

Overlooking the Luangwa River deep within the prime area of the South Luangwa National Park, Kaingo Camp offers endless beauty renowned for game viewing, providing guests with a safari journey they’ll never forget. Everything at Kaingo has been handpicked by the Shenton family, from the camps stylish design and practical layout to the choice of scrumptious, local produce grown on the Shenton Plot. Set on the banks of the shallow, spring-fed eponymous river, Kapamba is surrounded by some of Africa’s richest wildlife. Kapamba Bushcamp’s four stone chalets each showcase a wall that consists of a spider-web design of metal latticework, giving guests amazing views of the Kapamba River. Guests can watch the frequent wild visitors of the river from the multi-level main deck, or from the ease of their own private verandas or pool-size bathtubs. Watching an elephant bathe in the river can be quite an experience when you’re lounging in your own private plunge pool.
