Climate & Seasons
“There is never really a bad time to visit Safari House and the Etosha Heights Reserve but it should be noted that each season offers a very different experience. In the winter months of May to September (and when we say winter, we mean dry, sunny days with little to no rainfall – most unlike a European winter!) the waterholes begin to dry up and the wildlife congregates around the little that is left, making for iconic and easy game viewing. Temperatures at this time of year hover around the mid-twenties Celsius but be warned – it can get chilly in the mornings and evenings…
The summer months of October to April are when Etosha receives the most rain, but don’t let that put you off. Rain showers are short and sharp and the clouds and lightning storms make for some of the best sunsets you’ll ever witness! At this time, the landscape is green and luscious and all the animals are still present and correct. Temperature-wise, expect high-twenties into the mid-thirties Celsius and come prepared with plenty of suncream, a hat and good sunglasses.”
Safari House is a three-bedroomed private house, with the capacity for six guests, and three children. Within the privacy of this little haven, it’s all about relaxed, familial hospitality – Namibian style. Each of the three spacious rooms feature an en suite bathroom, air-conditioning, complete with a complimentary laundry service. Perfect for family holidays, or a group of friends, you can all come together here in comfort and style.
The luxury of Safari House comes in the exclusivity. Enjoy meals prepared by your own private chef, ready to cater to your every culinary desire. They are also able to prepare bush picnics for your group so you can enjoy delicious food out in the wilderness of Etosha Heights.
Enjoy the beauty of game drives any time of day. Whether early in the morning or chasing the sunset, you can venture out into the reserve and across to Etosha National Park. Along with your private chef, you have full access to a private guide and your own safari vehicle, for a personal, tailored experience through and through. Spot a pride of lions, herds of elephants and creatures big and small any time of year.
What’s a safari holiday without snapping some incredible photos? At Safari House you can take full advantage of the double-story photography hide that sits just metres before the watering hole and take photos you’ll treasure forever.
The black and white rhino populations within Namibia, and across the world, have long been under threat from poachers. Within the private reserve of Etosha Heights, highly trained rangers work within the anti-poaching camp to protect and preserve the precious rhino population from illegal hunting. “Combined with the new state of the art anti-poaching surveillance technology, this team is a force to be reckoned with”.
In northern Namibia, not a million miles from Safari House and Safarihoek is Sesfontein Boarding School. Children from isolated and remote corners of northern Namibia attend and board with very few means. The Natural Selection Foundation have begun support the school and the children who attend it, firstly by providing beds for the children to sleep on. The support is on-going, and guests are welcome to contribute school supplies. If you wish to support the school, find out what is most needed during your visit, by inquiring with Safari House, so you can support the school with exactly what they need.
Monitoring wildlife is a vital part of their protection, but this can be incredibly costly in both time and resources. This is why Safari House and all Natural Selection Foundation properties have partnered with Citizen-Science, a growing initiative that uses tourist shots of wildlife in the effort to track precious species across the continent. This works by uploading your holiday pictures to the Citizen-Science platform, and providing the location of the shot. This way the scientists who receive the images can better understand the magnificent animals you spotted.
Safari House, just like the adjacent Safarihoek Lodge, is sourced from solar power! When you’re there you can admire the impressive solar panel set up near the Lodge, that means both properties are entirely energy-efficient.
Children of all ages welcome.
