Relais Du Kirindy

The accommodation at Relais Du Kirindy is found in individually appointed stilted wooden bungalows, each has a front entrance terrace that is perfect for enjoying the warm evenings. The interior showcases a blend of bare redbrick walls and woven thatch sections, with redwood flooring. The furnishings are rustic, and comfortable, with mosquito nets for each bed provided, as well as comfy sitting areas and fans to help cool the rooms.

Each bungalow has a spacious tiled bathroom with a shower, wooden sink unit and large mirror, with hot water provided by a solar heater.

The bungalows are available as double, twin, triple, quadruple or family rooms. The twin and double rooms can each accommodate up to 2 guests, whilst the triple room can accommodate up to 3 guests with a double and single bed. The quadruple room and family room are ideal for families or large groups travelling together, the quadruple room can accommodate up to 4 guests and the family room can accommodate up to 7.

Kirindy Restaurant offers an authentic taste of Madagascar through Malagasy cuisine, the spacious wooden dining room opens out to the pool where guests can dine outside if they choose. The dining room offers stunning views over the grounds, a large, green expanse dotted with endemic flora and baobab trees.

The menu at Kirindy Restaurant is ever-changing, rotating depending on the season and what produce is at its freshest. Many of the fruits and vegetables are grown in the kitchen garden, and what cannot be sourced from the ground is purchased from local farmers and fishermen.

Kirindy Private Reserve is an oasis for wildlife, established in the 1970s as an experiment in sustainable logging and forest management and now an active primate research base, Kirindy Private Reserve is proof that wildlife can thrive even in the face of human destruction. The edges of the 120-square-kilometre dry deciduous forest, which have been cleared by loggers and degraded over the years, throw into sharp contrast the thriving flora and fauna within the borders of the reserve and show just how important Kirindy Private Reserve is as a protected area.

Kirindy is one of the best places to spot the elusive fossa, a carnivorous mammal in the mongoose family that is endemic to Madagascar. Kirindy has the highest concentration of fossa on the whole island, and the park is also home to a huge diversity of lemurs and birds.

Avenue du Baobab is a 260m stretch of dirt road that’s lined with 20-25 spectacular baobab trees which are speculated to be over 800 years old. Historically, these trees would have been part of dense forest, not standing alone as they do today. Thankfully, the area has been the centre of local conservation efforts and has been granted protected status by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, which is the first step towards making it a natural monument.
