Manatus Hotel

The Manatus Hotel has twelve individually appointed bungalow-style rooms which each have their own private patio, offering guests an intimate sanctuary in which to unwind after a long day of exploring the beauty of Tortuguero. The rooms are spacious and airy, with two double beds to accommodate up to four guests. The beds are dressed in plush white linens, and splashes of colour are brought to the rooms through the hand-painted sinks and lamps, which feature wildlife native to Tortuguero such as toucans and manatees. Each of the rooms has an ensuite and a private outdoor shower under the stunning canopy of the rainforest.

Ara Macaw offers an exquisite gourmet fusion of afro-Caribbean and Costa Rican cuisine, with a la carte menus available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The carefully designed menu is varied and cosmopolitan offering guests a full culinary experience to be enjoyed in the open-air restaurant that is nestled in the lush verdant gardens which are home to a stunning array of birds and fauna. The canal views add to the tranquility of the experience.

Bar Morpho specialises in beach-style cocktails for guests to unwind with and enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the canal and gardens.

Tortuguero National Park protects over 19,000 hectares and includes a vast diversity of natural habitats: beach, estuary, marine, freshwater riverine and tropical lowland rain forest. The National Park is home to an extensive network of freshwater creeks and lagoons which are the natural habitat of seven species of river turtles, Spectacled Caimans, Southern River Otters, several types of crustaceans and over fifty species of freshwater fish. Several types of guided boat tours are available, and allow visitors an up-close and personal experience of the wildlife.

Barra del Colorado is the largest reserve in the country and offers visitors some fantastic fishing opportunities throughout the year with both freshwater and marina fishing locations. From January to June, tarpon are in season, whilst from September to December there is a large number of bass. Please note that the reserve has a catch-and-release policy to ensure the safety of its marine population.

A comprehensive waste management program focusing on “reduce, reuse and recycle” that helps conserve energy and reduces pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions. Manatus Tortuguero also participate in  a local recycling program where they recycle paper, cardboard, beverage containers, plastics and aluminium in general.

LED luminaires light bulbs are used within the hotel premises, these bulbs last longer and emit less heat than incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps.

To reduce emissions and minimise any potential water pollution, Manatus Hotel has replaced the 4-stoke engines on their boats with 2-stoke engines.

The Manatus Hotel has established a water conservation program within the property that encourages both guests and employees to be mindful of water usage and educates about the excessive consumption of water. Water-saving hardware is currently installed in the communal areas of the hotel and there are plans to extend this to the rest of the property.

The grounds of Manatus Hotel are home to two hectares of tropical rainforest as part of a conservation project and is maintained by the hotel as part of their efforts to manage and counteract their C02 emissions.
