Linyanti Bush Camp

Linyanti Bush Camp consists of just 6 luxury tents, all generously spaced apart to allow guests maximum privacy. Each of the large tents is very spacious, with double or twin beds available, as well as a comfortable sofa area and a writing desk. The netted windows provide panoramic views of the landscape and the wildlife which lives within it, meaning that even during downtime, guests can enjoy Botswana’s amazing wildlife. The bedroom will lead on to an en-suite bathroom with flush toilets, a basin and an indoor shower. Outdoor baths are also available for guests who want a relaxing soak with stunning natural scenery. Each tent opens out to a private verandah with luxurious deck chairs and sweeping views over the marshlands.

Enjoy a filling continental breakfast buffet before venturing out on a game drive, and returning to a delicious light lunch. Later on, afternoon tea is available and comes with a selection of treats. Dinner is served in the evenings and followed up with a delectable dessert. A couple of evenings each week, guests can look forward to mouth-watering traditional meals or barbecues. Look out over the Linyanti Marsh from the comfort of the raised dining area, and enjoy a refreshing drink from the camp’s bar.

Embark on an exciting game drive and see the private reserve’s amazing wildlife up close. Drive up to Chobe’s famous large herds of elephants and get a sense of their sheer size from the safety of the safari vehicle. Weave around herds of buffalo and giraffe, and learn all about these extraordinary creatures from Linyanti Bush Camp’s knowledgeable guides.

Due to the camp’s position on a private reserve, guests are able to venture out on night drives. Night-time game drives offer the unique chance to find some of the reserve’s nocturnal creatures which you would be unable to find at any other time. The darkness adds an extra immersive element to this experience as you search for adorable bushbabies, African wildcats and honey badgers in the endless plains.

Wander across the Linyanti Marshlands and explore with an experienced and passionate walking guide. Venture to the places that safari vehicles cannot reach, and spy on incredible wildlife without the noise of an engine to startle them. This activity is most enjoyable between May and October when the land is dry and reveals more plains for walking across. The professional armed guides will be able to teach you about the fascinating species that live on the reserve, and how to recognise their tracks. Due to safety reasons, walking safaris are only available for guests aged 16 and over.

Drift along in a dug-out canoe and watch the wildlife from the safety of the tranquil waters. Once the only form of transportation available to bushmen, mokoros would have been fashioned from hardwood tree trunks. Today, they are made from fibreglass to help preserve Botswana’s stunning hardwood forests. Learn about the river and its inhabitants while hippos swim alongside you and elephants drink from the riverbanks. Due to the fluctuating levels of the water, Mokoro Safaris are not always available.

The Linyanti Marshlands feature varied environments, both wet and dry, which provides a brilliant location for bird watching. The reserve has amazing bird viewing opportunities, with hundreds of species to see, including African Skimmers, Half-Collared Kingfishers and the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl. Different birds may be available to spot depending on the season. For example, the green season brings in large numbers of the stunning and colourful Carmine Bee-Eaters as they migrate for the season.

A half-hour scenic helicopter flight over the vast marshlands is included when you stay 3 nights or more at Linyanti Bush Camp. This is a seasonal activity and is only available between April and November. Gaze upon the beautiful landscape, which features lots of different environments from wet marshlands to dry woodlands. Watch herds of elephants from a birds-eye vantage, before landing in the marshlands for a refreshing picnic.

The African Bush Camps Foundation has established a number of projects that aim to improve education, empowerment and conservation efforts within the local communities where they operate. They work with members of the community in order to improve school facilities, provide educational textbooks and supplies for students, and supporting a local health centre, as well as encouraging these communities to form a peaceful relationship with the local wildlife, and finding ways to resolve human and animal conflict. African Bush Camps contribute $10 USD towards the Foundation’s running costs for every night that a single guest stays at one of their camps.

Pack for a Purpose is an initiative that encourages travellers to benefit local communities by using spare suitcase space to bring much-needed supplies for their Conservation Education Program and Women’s Craft Groups. Supplies can be dropped off at your accommodation and will be used to aid a local project, such as craft groups, where local woman are taught skills that allow them to make traditional and non-traditional items such as traditional basketwork, hand-sewn and embroidered products and hand-beaded glass and food nets. These items can then be sold to provide incomes, start small businesses and even support the construction of homes.

The African Bush Foundation runs a ‘Greener Camps’ programme which means that ‘African Bush Camps Safari Properties are committed to operating in a sustainable manner, ensuring that we preserve the environment, culture and conservation of Africa. Where possible we use solar power, low energy lighting systems, wastewater treatment, greywater recycling, and single-use plastic reduction initiatives.’ This means that the impact on the environment caused by African Bush Camps is kept to a minimum.

The biggest threat to African lions is conflict with humans. Livestock is vital for many people’s livelihoods, and if lions attempt to attack livestock, it can have devastating effects for both the owners and the lions themselves if people were to retaliate. Because of this, the Lion Guardian teams are trained to empower and educate local communities about living in harmony with wildlife. By providing an income for the local members of the community that become Lion Guardians, the African Bush Camps Foundation is able to support the guardians and their families as well as protect lions and livestock.
