Entre Hielos Lodge lies amongst the southern archipelagos of the Chilean Patagonia Ice-fields, and is a lodge accommodation. It is located within Tortel, which is at the mouth of the Rio Cochrane and on the coast of the South Pacific Ocean and it lies halfway up a hillside, providing stunning views of the landscape.With only 5 suites, the hotel provides an authentic Chilean experience, whilst also providing its guests with modern amenities and a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere.

Entre Hielos Lodge lies within the beautiful, remote Caleta Tortel (Southern Carretera Austral, Chile). This lodge is the ultimate getaway to unspoilt wilderness and outdoor adventures. In chile’s most incredible landscapes. The lodge lies within walking distance to restaurants in the village, which offer authentic chilean cuisines. Caleta Tortel has a rich history and is built almost entirely on boardwalks at the base of the mountain around a series of small bays. The sea is visible through the planks beneath your feet, and the boardwalks extend for kilometres. Houses were gradually built above the first houses, up the side of the mountain, involving a series of steep stairs weaving chaotically between houses and trees. Great for exploring the various of walkways and stunning outdoors that Caleta Tortel has to offer.

Benefitting from a unique location, between the Northern and Southern Ice Fields and close to the Baker River, this is an incredible place to take in the natural beauty of Chile.

Rooms and Facilities

You will be treated to incredible personalised service, and an authentic experience, with this hotel only accommodating five rooms. Each of these rooms come with private bathrooms, comfortable beds which welcome you at the end of an adventurous day, and central heating to keep you at a comfortable temperature. Rooms come in either single or double formats.

There is a beautiful onsite restaurant, in which you can enjoy a delicious cuisines made with local organic produce.

Activities and Experiences

Due to its unique location, guests are in an excellent spot to take in some of the area’s natural beauty. Some of the recommended activities include a descent through Baker River, an iceberg or glacier tour, or even a tour of the nearby reserve and historical monuments.

STEFFEN SNOWDRIFT

Visit to the Steffen Snowdrift, which is in the southern part of the Northern Ice Field, Laguna San Rafael National Park. From Caleta Tortel we take the boat to start sailing through Tortel Bay, then in front of the mouth of the Baker River, passing by Steffen Fjord.

After 2 hours you will reach the mouth of the Huemules river, in the same boat you go up the river until you reach the port where the walk to the Ventisquero begins through the river basin. This hike is light since the terrain is flat, and lasts 2 hours to reach the Ventisquero lagoon.

BAKER RIVER

Excursion that includes navigation from Caleta Tortel, recognizing the Adjacent Islands, their geography and vegetation. Then ascent by the Baker river to go to the Isla de los Muertos (Historical Monument). Continue navigating the river to enter the Pisagua stream where there are various types of waters. Later, you will arrive at the Tortel aerodrome to start a walk through the Tortel walkways to return to the center of town.

Montt Steffen Glaciers - 2 Day Excursion

This leisure activity includes an exciting two day trip, with the following itinerary:

Day 1
Departure to the Montt glacier, breakfast on the boat.
Arrival at the Montt, lunch, rest to the glacier by boat and/or walk.
Departure for Steffen glacier.
Arrival at Steffen Fjord, dinner and accommodation.
Total Time: 12 hours of navigation per day.

Day 2
Breakfast.
Departure by auxiliary boat through Rio Huemules.
Hike (4 hours) to the Steffen glacier.
Return to the boat
Lunch and return to Tortel.
Total Time: 7 hours of navigation per day.

KATALALIXAR RESERVE

From Caleta Tortel we enter the nearby canals, in a day’s navigation. Along the Martinez Channel we visit some beaches and waterfalls to get into Merino Jarpa Island, part of the Katalalixar archipelago reserve. Through a stream we enter a large lagoon and descend to walk through the hills until we exceed the vegetation layer, reaching the bare rock peaks left by the disappearance of the glaciers very few years ago in the history of our planet.
