Elephant Bedroom Camp

Elephant Bedroom Camp is set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu National Reserve, surrounded by doum palms and other beautiful indigenous trees and shrubs that encompass the camps 12 luxury tents, blending seamlessly with the natural environment. Each superbly appointed unit features an en-suite bathroom with al fresco shower facilities, hot & cold running water, and plentiful amenities, furnished with a hearty sprinkle of East African flare.

 

A varied selection of game viewing activities await you, from classic 4×4 safari game drives to guided bush walks, birdwatching, sundowners, stargazing and cultural interactions with a local Maasai community. Dining is exquisite, featuring three meals served daily and a host of lite bites offered in-between, all skilfully crafted from the freshest local ingredients. Situated in East Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean, with Ethiopia and Sudan to the north, Somalia to the east, and Tanzania to the south, the Kenyan landscape is defined by an intrinsically diverse array of geography, comprising lush savannahs, arid deserts, stretching wetlands and mountainous terrain.

Featuring some of the highest game concentrations on the continent, this vast land is synonymous for the Great Migration, a plethora of national parks and expansive Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) that dot the landscape.

Elephants Bedroom Camp is situated approximately 350km north of the Kenyan capital Nairobi. Set along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, shaded by doum palms and other trees that make up this green belt of riverine forest in Samburu National Reserve. Elephant Bedroom Camp is situated amid one of Kenya’s prime wildlife viewing locations, where frequent sightings of elephant, monkey, zebra, impala, lion, and leopard await all visiting guests.

Elephant Bedroom Camp is accessible via an approximate 5 hours’ drive from Nairobi. Alternatively, camp is accessible via transfer to the Kalama, Oryx and Buffalo Airstrips, followed by a 1-hour game drive to the camp location. These airstrips are serviced by: Safarilink – from Nairobi, twice daily, and Air Kenya – from Nairobi, twice daily. Charter flights are scheduled.

Fully inclusive rates mean that you are free to indulge in a mouth-watering selection of locally sourced alcoholic and none-alcoholic beverages at your own leisure, which includes the three set meals that are served throughout the day. Featured rates exclude premium drinks, conservation and concession fees, gratuities of a personal nature and medivac.

With a choice of private and communal, al fresco and under canvas dining locations, there are options to suit the preferences of all guests. Depending on what time of year you decide to visit, you may wish to pack accordingly. Generally, temperatures soar during the day, so you should bring light and airy clothing; ideally neutral colours such as cream or khaki. Bring shorts, a comfortable pair of walking shoes/boots and a sunhat.

You are advised to bring sunblock and lotions. Temperatures drop in the evening and do not begin to rise until the late morning, so make sure to bring a jacket and other warm articles of clothing along with you.

Elephant Bedroom Camp features 24-hour around the clock security with regular patrols, ensuring the safety of visiting guests. The main camp area features an all-inclusive bar, fully stocked with a comprehensive range of locally sourced and imported alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Spa treatments and body therapies are available from any one many scenic and atmospheric camp locations, including your private veranda. Internet access is available throughout the main camp area, though connection speeds may be slow. Wheelchair access is available throughout the camp.

A total of 12 luxury Tents comprises the total accommodation at Elephant Bedroom Camp. These eloquently appointed units stand elevated above the ground on raised timber platforms, offering spectacular views of the encompassing plains and the game that roams them.

Finely furnished in the classic East African style, each unit features an en-suite bathroom, al fresco shower facilities, your choice of king-sized or twin double four-poster beds, hot and cold running water, your own private plunge pool with which to take a rejuvenating dip amid the scorching midday heat and a generous selection of room amenities.

Dining at Elephant Bedroom Camp

Three meals are served daily, featuring a hearty continental breakfast comprised of fresh fruits, pastries, cereals, and juices, an al fresco picnic lunch served on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River under the shade of the trees between activities, and a lavish three course evening banquet.

Meals range from lite and healthy to lavish and indulgent, ensuring there are preferences to suit all guests. If you have any specific dietary requirements, be sure to inform the camp in advance so the appropriate accommodations can be made. With all-inclusive rates, you’re free to indulge in a comprehensive range of refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at your own discretion.

Private meals can be arranged on the guest tent veranda or under the stars.

Game Drives

Embark on daily game drives amid scenic, picturesque plains of the Samburu National Reserve. Experienced guides, familiar with the lay of the land and the abundance of wildlife that roams it will lead you safely through the lush landscape in 4×4 safari vehicles in search of elephant, monkey, zebra, impala, lion, leopard, and numerous other safari staples, many of which can be seen roaming the open plains in search of waterholes or casually lounging in the sun.

Buckle up and prepare for a one-of-a-kind safari experience. Morning, afternoon, and evening game drives are available. Safari vehicles pack six guests max.

Guided Bush Walks

Bush walks will allow you to soak up the intricacies of nature while traversing the land at a more intimate and insightful pace than conventional safari game drives. Knowledgeable guides will discuss with you the features of the land while pointing out local flora and fauna.

Samburu National Reserve offers high concentrations of plains game, making any excursion one to write home about. Here, game is shot only with camera equipment, and the fertile plains that surround you offer the perfect opportunity for world-class wildlife photography.

Bird Watching

Samburu National Reserve is an expansive wildlife area which features close to 400 species waiting for you to discover. Bird watching here is phenomenal year-round, but at its absolute best during the short rains of November and early December when most species are in breeding plumage.

Keep your eyes peeled for the likes of the saddle-billed stork, the African fish eagle and Sharpe’s longclaw.

Stargazing

Cast your eyes upon the speckled canvas of vibrant lights displayed by the Sambura night sky while gathered around a cosy campfire in the company of friends and family. Untarnished by light pollution, the remote areas of the Kenyan bush provide the perfect arena for a picturesque star-gazing experience.

Marvel at the infinite sky, which features the Big Dipper in the northern hemisphere and the Southern Cross and Pointers in the south.

Cultural Interactions

Cultural interactions with local Maasai communities allow guests to gain a better understanding of indigenous culture and customs, observing first-hand the authentic Kenyan way of life while providing insights into the daily obstacles and challenges faced by local communities.

Meet village elders and greet local children, observe the role of women as crafters and artisans gaining valuable cultural insight into traditional Maasai life.

Children Welcome

Elephant Bedroom Camp welcomes families with children of all ages. However, due to the potentially hazardous and sometimes unpredictable nature of the environment, children must be supervised by an adult at all times.
