The Deluxe Rooms are simple and refreshing, featuring white linens and walls accented with palm wood and wicker furnishings. Renowned architect Rafael Selman, who used his love of nature for inspiration, designed these rooms. Selman built the accommodations in a way so that each room has views of both the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Barahuco Mountains. Each of Casa Bonita 12 Deluxe Rooms and the Ocean View Suite display graphic art by the acclaimed conservation photographer Eladio Fernandez. The Rooms feature a private balcony overlooking the tropical jungle and out to sea and provide guests with deluxe King rooms outfitted with a king bed, while Deluxe Double Rooms have two full-size beds.

This suite is equipped with a private pool providing infinitive views towards the Caribbean Sea, complemented by a solarium and terrace that provide you with complete relaxation. The Villa Bonita is a private Villa in paradise, perfect to enjoy with family with its 2 wide bedrooms, one with a king bed and the second one with 2 full beds. The Villa also provides a living room, dining table, fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning in both bedrooms and ceiling fans, a Flat Screen TV, spacious individual closets, private bathroom in all rooms and a dressing room. The Villa Bonita also features a private terrace with a pool and a BBQ for the guests, making it the ideal family Caribbean retreat.

The River and Master Suites are private Villas situated in ultimate paradise and overlook the Sito River.

The innovative cuisine reflects Casa Bonita’s practice of supporting the use of produce from the local community and using ingredients from our very own Pat’s Organic Garden. The garden was named after its designer, American horticulturist Pat Kennedy. Based on all-organic methods, Pat’s Organic Garden contributes to Casa Bonita’s commitment to sustainability, and provides a unique farm-to-table dining experience. For a complete agro-tourism experience at our eco hotel in Barahona, guests may even take part in the harvesting of organic vegetables, fruits and herbs.

Tanama Eco Spa is set in the woods amidst trees that shower leaves and seeds making music to the rhythm of the river, on the journey to awaken the senses. The Tanama Eco Spa designs therapeutic treatments around miraculous natural elements like coffee, chocolate, coconut, basil, bamboo, noni, mango, and pineapple. A unique treatment at Casa Bonita uses the combination of hot and cold ‘Ciba Azul Stones’, meaning ‘Blue Stone’ in the native Taino language.

At the charming Tanama Spa you can end a romantic evening with a glass of wine and a dip in the candlelit Jacuzzi, where the only accomplices shall be the stars in the Dominican night sky.

With its surface covering over 350 square kilometers (135 square miles), Lago Enriquillo is the largest lake in the Caribbean, and also the region’s sole body of water located more than 43 meters (140 feet) below sea level. Named after Enriquillo, the first Taino chief who successfully revolted against Spanish colonialists, the lake and its surrounding lands are ideal for wildlife watching and nature exploration.

Boat trips along the lake’s waters and onto Isla Cabritos – sitting in the middle of this unique body of water – reveal a large population of American crocodiles which you’ll view up close, as well as pink flamingos at Boca de Cachón, and numerous other bird species. Iguanas guard the entrance to the lake, and the surrounding land includes tropical and dry forests, water springs – La Azufrada – and farmland.

The near 32 – kilometer (20-mile) long drive from sea level up to the observatory at Hoyo de Pelempito’s park, in an area called Aceitillar, located a cool 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) high is an attraction in itself, and unique to the Caribbean region. The vegetation will surprise you as it morphs from desert plants to pine trees, and into a cloud forest. At the top are several mountain trails near the observatory, which overlooks the hoyo de Pelempito: a geological depression dropping 700 meters and nestled between the Sierra de Bahoruco mountains.

This incredible geological depression on the Sierra de Bahoruco National Park, Hoyo de Pelempito is located between high mountains and considered one of the wonders of the Caribbean. The natural spot is covered with tropical forests and was formed by peaks, the hole was created by a landslide that broke and moved the near rocks; the subsidence of a huge coral reef and the tectonic movements of the nearby faults gave it its peculiar shape.

Recognised as the most beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic, this diamond-white stretch runs for five miles, boasting crystal clear turquoise waters and is tucked away from hotels, shops, and restaurants. Protected as part of the Jaragua National Park, a spectacular rocky karst landscape hugs this beach all along the coastline. You can reach Bahía de Las Águilas by an all-terrain vehicle, or by boat from the shores of Cabo Rojo. It truly is one of the most treasured destinations, Bahía de las Águilas is home to coral reefs and diverse marine wildlife. UNESCO added it to its World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2002.

“Lic. Polibio Diaz Foundation leads the development of an artisanal village, which fuses the integration of the community with the project. It is an interesting initiative that will create the platform for the neighbouring population to participate in sustainable activities to improve and preserve their local and traditional knowledge.

Through the artisanal village, our foundation will provide the land and infrastructure for local residents to promote their services and crafts, such as soaps, detergents, coffee, honey, preserves, larimar and other artisanal crafts, some of which will also be used in the project. Our foundation will lay the foundations and seek support with existing institutions and ONGs for proportion.”

The Casa Bonita Restaurant supports the use of produce from local communities and incorporates ingredients from their very own ‘Pat’s Organic Garden’. All produce served to guests are based on organic methods, as well as a passionate commitment to sustainability. Guests are also given the option to take part in the harvesting of organic vegetables, fruits & herbs from Pat’s Organic Garden.
