Spend an evening relaxing in the bar surrounded by the virgin rainforest and fruit trees. With a drink in your hand, observe the monkeys swinging among the canopy and the birds swooping through the trees. Non-alcoholic fruit drink and canned beverages are also available so there is something for everyone to try.

Dine in the jungle inspired dining room and be seated to enjoy a delectable meal that have been prepared with locally sourced fresh fruit and vegetables. Uniquely prepared by the chefs, the menu has been created full of style and originality so that everyone leaves satisfied.

Hike through the last remaining Pacific lowland rainforest of sustainable size in Central America that is known as “the most biologically intense place on Earth” as stated by the National Geographic Society. To begin the venture into the tropical wilderness, a guide will take you along a trail and will tell you about some of the stories about life in the rainforest as you head towards a river and a magnificent waterfall; here you have the opportunity to take a dip in the cool refreshing waters of one of the shaded pools and then make your way down the river until you reach the Park Station at San Pedrillo. Sip on the ice-cold drinks and savour the sweet fruits before walking along the coastal trail to return back to the Lodge.

Begin the day by bringing your binoculars as you venture into the first after first light as a guide will take you on a tour to spot some of the 350 species of birds that reside in the Peninsula de Osa. Stop at the Margarita Sunset Bar where you will have the chance to see some birds such as Scarlet Macaws, Chestnut Mandibled Toucans, Brown Pelicans and Magnificent Frigatebirds. Approach the “Inspiration point” as you cross the bridge to see many different species of birds including Scarlet Tanagers, Summer Tanagers, Red-capped Manakins, Red-legged Honeycreepers, Turquoise Cotingas, Scarlet-rumped Caciques, White-vented Euphonias, Yellow-billed Caciques, Eastern Meadowlarks, Blue-black Grosbeaks and Black-striped Sparrows.

Enjoy a 15-20 minute boat ride as your guide will take you out to a tropical paradise, San Josecito which is a swimming beach sheltered in a coral-filled bay. This beach is the perfect place to go snorkelling and it suitable for any levels of experience so anyone is welcome. When it comes to lunch, the guide will have set out a picnic lunch on the beach where you can relax under the palm trees.

These tours comprise of half day and full day tours so there is something suitable for everyone, beginners and more experienced riders. Both of these tours involve a short tractor ride to the point where the horses will be waiting for you and on more wetter days, you will go on a 15-20 minute boat ride to San Josecito beach where the horses will be waiting for you. On the half day tours, you will have the opportunity to gallop along the sandy beach and relax back at the Lodge for lunch. On the full day tours, you will follow a trail through the rainforest, passing remote homesteads, until you arrive at a crystal-clear river where you can relax in the refreshing waters of the pool and have lunch.

Take a 40 minute boat ride to the Coral Garden and if you go during the right time of the year, you may be able to spot pilot or humpback whales and dolphins along the way. Located within a marine reserve, the snorkelling site is perfect for spotting a variety of fish and other marine life such as manta rays, turtle and small white-tipped sharks.

Hike through the virgin rainforest on the Tinamou trail to reach the off-the-grid farm situated in a serene clearing in the rainforest. The hike should take an hour and a half depending on the sightings you may see along the way before you arrive at the open space of Claro del Bosque. Intending to be a Food Garden, this is a new project that the Lodge has developed with plans to disseminate seeds, plant material and knowledge to the local communities. Squeeze fresh sugar cane juice whilst at the farm and taste a traditional Costa Rican drink before having lunch in the thatched Rancho.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to dive on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica as you explore sites around Cano Island. Dive into the waters surrounding the island that are full of life and due to the clear water, you will be able to encounter many different types of marine life; some of these include Humpback Whales, Dolphins, Reef Sharks, Giant Manta Rays, Sting Rays, Sea Turtles, Snappers, Trumpetfish, Crustaceans, huge schools of Barracuda and much more.

Hop in a kayak and venture out into the waters, explore the coast or Roca Campanario, head to Bell Tower Rock or even go further afield and paddle to San Josecito each for those who are more experienced and looking for adventure. If you are feeling particularly tired or thirsty, wave to your support boat who will give you a cold drink or a tow. Go snorkelling if you paddle to the beach and enjoy a delicious picnic ashore that the guide will have ready for you.

Explore the small channels aboard a boat that will take you through the rainforest and observe the squirrel monkeys hanging from the trees, the caimans and crocodiles floating in the waters, and the hundred species of birds that can be found in this area swopping among the foliage.

Situated in the Corcovado National Park, hike along the trails through the rainforest and view the wildlife that surrounds you. There are three different trails, all varying in length, that hikers can walk along and there is a trail suited to all levels of experience. The Guanacaste Trail is 2 kilometres long, relatively flat and easy to navigate which begins in the primary part of the rainforest. The trail then leads to the Sirena River before entering into the secondary rainforest where there are several rivers and streams to cross. The second trail is the Espuvellas Trail which is the longest of all three as 2.5 kilometres long which runs through the primary rainforest behind the Sirena Ranger Station. This trail is also relatively flat, easy to navigate and crosses several streams and rivers along the way. The third trail is the Rio Claro Trail which is 1 kilometre long and is different to the other trails as is has a more coastal/beach feel to it. Overall, the total time to complete all three of these trails is 3 1/2 hours if you wish to do all three.

The Casa Corocovado Jungle lodge offers sportfishing packages in the waters of the South Pacific Coast of Costa Rica that fishing enthusiasts and other levels of experience can purchase. There have more than 40 world records in this area and fishers can find schools of Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Jacks and Wahoo. They also specialise in inshore fishing for Roosterfish and find Grouper and Giant Cubera Snapper in the waters of Cano Island.

While you are tucked away fast asleep in your bed at night, the forest comes alive with the sounds and movements of different species. Over 60% of the species in the rainforest are nocturnal which you don’t see during the day. Explore the tropical forest at night and experience a whole new world you have never seen before. Accompanied by a guide, you will be able to see a variety of different animals such as the Red Eyed Tree Frog, Tarantulas and even the secretive Tapir.

Casa Corcovado Jungle Lodge have eco-tips to reduce the impact that visitors have on the fragile environments. It is advised to stay on the trails and not to venture off of these as this reduces the rates of erosion cause by the transit of visitors and to report any environmental damage to the authorities. Visitors should not feed the wildlife as this interferes with and disturbs the balance of nature; diseases can also be carried from humans to the wildlife which they can die from as the bacteria is transferred so visitors should not touch the wildlife. Do not touch the coral when you swim in the waters as simply just touching the coral can cause the death of an entire colony as can walking or standing on them too. When approaching whales, it is strongly advised to approach from the side rather than from the front or the rear to stat visible, keep loud noises to a minimum and keep a safe distance of 100 meters from the whales.
