Day Tours
- Los Tuneles – An extraordinary formation of lava tunnels and arches submerged in the sea. A place where you can snorkel and see the unique marine wildlife.
- Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico Hikes – one of the largest active volcanic calderas in the world. Take a hike to see the spectacular views.
- Las Tintoreras – a series of small islands, take a boat ride along the coastline or snorkel between the islands and take in the magnificent scenery.
- Wall of Tears – A large Wall of Lava boulders constructed by prisoners in 1948. Follow this nature trail by foot or by bike which leads to lagoons, viewpoints and secluded beaches.
- Concha de Perla – A completely natural swimming pool, closed off from the sea. An amazing place to swim and snorkel.
- Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre – A National Park run centre where giant tortoises are raised from eggs to adolescence before being set free into the wild. You will have the ability to get up close and personal with the tortoises and learn about their history with a local guide.
- Wetlands – consisting of lagoons, swamps and mangroves, the wetlands are home to a variety of unique bird species. You can visit on foot via a path and boardwalk that winds through the swamps.
- Flamingo Lake – home to the largest concentration of flamingos. You can visit the Flamingo Lake on your own by foot.
Puerto Villamil is a small town that offers a lot of dining options. A popular row of restaurants along the main square in the town centre. If you’re looking for a beachfront restaurant there are a few situated right behind the hotel.
Lunch
Look for “almuerzo” specials, which usually come with juice, soup, rice with fish or meat and a dessert. Prices can be between $7-$10 for the whole lunch.
Dinner
There are a variety of dishes on offer on the island, but expect lots of seafood. Due to the lack of cattle and animal farming on the island, chicken and beef are very uncommon as well as vegetarian options. The hotel staff are always on hand to give restaurant recommendations. Dinner can cost around $20 if you want to enjoy a few alcoholic beverages.
