Located in an area with a tropical Monsoon Climate, travellers who wish to visit Amaya Hills may have to organise their trip around the experiences they wish to receive. The dry season lasts from January to April. Fresh from the monsoon seasons the forest is green and luscious at this time of year, with low humidity, low rainfall and comfortable temperatures of 18°C – 30°C. This is the perfect time of year for guests who wish to trek through the forested mountains and explore the nearby cities.
There are two monsoon seasons in Kandy. The first is the Yala monsoon season which lasts from May to September. At this time of year, there are short and sporadic rains which lead to dramatic gloomy skies and sensational sunsets. There are fewer tourists this time of year, especially in June and July, due to the longer, torrential rain showers. However, this season still offers good opportunities to explore the surrounding culture of Kandy, although trekking is more treacherous. The second monsoon season – the Maha monsoon season – lasts from October to December and sees the most torrential and unpredictable rainfall making activities difficult to plan.
