Cloud Nine Boutique Hotel

A relaxing Cape Town inner-city hotel and spa nestled at the foot of Table Mountain, Cloud Nine provides an enriching and holistic wellness experience, allowing you to heal your mind and body in the embrace of the lush weather of South Africa. Cloud Nine Boutique Hotel markets itself stylistically as ‘heritage meeting luxury’. Etienne Hanekom of Etienne Hanekom Designs, one of the designers for the hotel’s recent renovations, described the boutique as an attempt to create ‘a more local look & feel with vibrant colours from Bo-Kaap and illustrated scenes of the Atlantic seaboard by local artist Lucie de Moyencourt’.

It is built upon four separate older heritage properties, joining them together to create a blend of traditional and vintage design with something modern and cool. Primarily, it is built upon the Leeuwenvoet guest house, merging that with three older neighbouring buildings as well. As a boutique hotel, Cloud Nine places a huge amount of emphasis on visual and aesthetic embellishment. As such, much of the fine art and design collected and implemented throughout is worth taking in. At times, the line between museum and hotel becomes blurred, which only helps to make this hotel stand out as the choice of artists, directors, entrepreneurs. Anyone with an inventive or creative spirit is naturally most likely to be drawn to this establishment.

Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel & Spa, Kloof Nek Road, Gardens, Cape Town, South Africa

Located inside inner-city Cape Town, Cloud Nine’s location allows access to a host of several restaurants and other points of interest. It is nestled in the suburb of Gardens, located directly underneath Table Mountain, allowing for stunning mountain views. The Gardens is highly chic and accentuated by plenty of stylish loft apartment houses and interesting places to visit. A trip to Gardens is a stay in one of the most cutting edge areas of Cape Town. Explore Wildlife

If you feel the urge to get out into nature and come face-to-face with the local animals then you may be inclined to try exploring some of the local nature reserves. To catch a sight of some of Africa’s most iconic species. In that case, Cape Point can provide a memorable experience. Alongside 220km of treacherous towering cliffs where cold air meets warm air, anything from baboons to zebras are known to be spotted.

Boulders Beach is a vast sprawling oceanfront home to an entire legion of waddling African Penguins. This species is heavily endangered, and this beach is one of the few spots in the world where you can find a colony this large. It derives its name from the clusters of boulders scattered across the beach. Besides the penguin colonies, the calm waters here provide an excellent opportunity to swim.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront is the place to be for an exotic day out. It offers plenty to see and do, with a range of markets and fun activities from riding helicopters to checking out the rows of exquisite superyachts. La Famiglia is one of the prized yachts available for travel, be it a fishing voyage or a relaxing cruise. The yacht can take up to 12 people, and for extended outings can sleep 6 of them in comfort on-board.

Beyond that, the Waterfront provides a huge array of activities, from shopping to tea-drinking. It is worth checking out, as it is located right on Sea Point, the same as Cloud Nine, and only takes ten minutes to walk from the boutique to the waterfront.

Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans aquarium is the local aquarium situated in the V&A Waterfront. The aquarium holds a host of exotic marine animals. The I&J Predator exhibit holds 2.2 million litres of seawater and contains the prided ragged-tooth shark among other terrifying aquatic beasts. The exhibit can be viewed from several great vantage points including a walk through a terrifying tunnel-way.

Beaches

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as winding down by the beach. If you choose to stay at Cloud Nine Boutique, then you can rest easy knowing that there’s two excellent beaches nearby for you to explore. Clifton beach is made up of four coves, known as the first, second, third and fourth coves respectively. These beaches are often bustling with activity and brimming with things to do. The second beach is a Blue Flag beach, ensuring luxurious and sustainable standards.

Camps Bay is a long stretching shorefront layered in glistening, silky sand. The beach is lined with street-cafes and restaurants, and provides a generally more family friendly experience, with deck chairs and beach huts on rental. Muizenberg Beach is a long sandy shore perfect for taking it easy. The beach is a hugely popular spot for surfing, with excellent waves and plenty of safe space away from rocks.

Wine Tasting

Cape Winelands in Constantia is one of the most respected in the area, and a must-go for wine connoisseurs. The majestic, rolling vineyards and impeccable mountain vista behind them is a worthy draw even if wine isn’t your thing, but couple that with exquisite wine and you have got yourself a fantastic bundle.

Constantia is a place known for its food and wine, and for good reason. Here you can find simply some of the best produce in South Africa. A stay in Cloud 9 is only 40 minutes from Constantia. Access from the hotel can be gained through the ”Hop on, Hop off’ bus through the Purple Wine Tour. The bus can be boarded as it comes up to the hotel itself to take you to several of the region’s best winelands for tastings.

This is essential for wine lovers, as the exotic and beautiful locations coupled with the blissful taste of wine can be breathtaking.

Table Mountain

Table Mountain is the most iconic landmark in Cape Town; it is a gargantuan mountain that can be seen from almost anywhere in Cape Town. There is a cable car system that can provide stunning, sweeping views, and the rush of being that high on an iconic mount is palpable. The mountain gets its name from its shape, and it also has a fiery history, as it was once – about 1.2 million years ago – an active volcano.

Table Mountain is also surrounded by hiking tracks, and hiking up through them is highly recommended to help immerse yourself in the sweeping South African vistas. Notable hiking trails include the pipe track, the route that travels around the circumference of the mountain, and trailing through the Woodstock Caves, openings in the mountain itself that offer stunning, gravity-defying views, as the eroded rock forms wide sideways crevasses big enough to pitch multiple tents in.

Robben Island

Another one of Cape Town’s most known locations is Robben Island. Inside Table Bay, and loomed over by Table Mountain, this penal island is known for being the place Nelson Mandela spent 18 of his 27 years of imprisonment. What was once a maximum-security prison is now a museum dedicated to the tumultuous South African history. Considered a UNESCO world heritage site, its name means ‘seal island’ in Dutch.

There are multiple points of interest around the island, including a Muslim shrine, a lighthouse, an old WW2 blockhouse, and Mandela’s rockpile, a pile of rocks started by Mandela and added to one rock at a time by prisoners returning to the island.

Green Wall Project

Cloud 9 has attempted to grow a wall of greenery in an attempt to make a more sustainably-inclined environment. The wall is a pleasant edition, and looks stunning coupled with the lavish architecture and furnishing of the establishment. This is a large scale plant wall nestled in the hotel lounge, and helps breathe life into the hotel interior.

Children of all ages are welcome at Cloud Nine Boutique Hotel. Guests over the age of 12 are considered adults and will require their own room.

Very young children (0-2) are accommodated in a cot for an additional cost, including breakfast and must share a room with 1-2 adults. They are accommodated based on the availability of rooms and cots.
