Lake Chahafi Resort, Kisoro, Uganda
Lake Chahafi is located in the Kisoro region of Uganda. This region is quaint and rural, with many rural villages and townships lying between the resort and the town of Kisoro. The region is surrounded by the Mufumbiro Mountains which are part of the Virunga Mountains. The region is most famous for its population of rare mountain gorillas, however exploring the rolling grasslands, emerald forests, glassy lakes and surrounding mountains and hills are just as enticing a draw for travellers to this area.

The weather in Kisoro is suitable for travelling year-round, with warm temperatures throughout the year. The summer months are short but warm, and last from around July to September. Average daily temperatures are above 24°C, with lows of 14°C. October to December are the winter months, with daily temperatures below 22°C, but again, averaging with lows of 14°C. Rainfall tends to occur more often in the winter months, however, the rainiest month of the year tends to be April, with rainfall most days. July, August and September are recommended to be the best months to travel.
The accommodations at Lake Chahafi Resort are comfortable and intimate. With only 9 cabins guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of their stunning surroundings while drifting off to sleep, or waking with the sunrise. The cabins come in twin, double, or triple configurations, and all include cosy beds covered in crisp white bed linens and plush pillows, and are draped in mosquito netting so guests can enjoy a bug-free night’s sleep. Polished wooden floors and wooden furniture created unity throughout the room, and the cabins are filled with bright natural light. All cabins also come complete with their own ensuite bathrooms.
Guests can head to the main dining area of Lake Chahafi Resort for mealtimes. A full English is served in the mornings with refreshing juices and warming hot drinks. In the evenings, a four-course meal is served; a starter, soup course, main, and dessert. Meat and vegetarian options are offered, and guests can enjoy their meal from the privacy of their own balconies, under the stars in the garden, by the lake at sunset, or in the heart of the bush.
A 3 to 4-hour excursion around the stunning scenery of Lake Chahafi can be arranged for guests. Starting on a boat the trail which covers the northern part of the lake, you will be able to look into the glistening waters and see fish or look to the banks and watch the wading birds waiting for a lucky catch. The trail will take you past a historical WW1 site, which still has trenches visible, and through villages and communities where you will have the chance to visit a local school and find out about the rural life here.
Tours can be arranged in the morning, where you will witness the sun rising over the glistening lake, or in the afternoon, where you can witness the sunset over the bushveld.
With a trained and friendly guide begin your canoeing tour from the banks of the lake. For 3 to4 hours glide along the river, keeping your eyes on the banks for colourful reed frogs, flitting dragonflies, and wading birds. Surrounding the lake are mountains and hills which you can truly take in while slowly journeying along the river. These canoeing excursions are available for guests in the afternoon.
Lake Chahafi is locally owned and run, and has partnered with a local philanthropist and Chahafi native to help support the local community. Donations of scholastic materials for the local schools from guests are welcomed.
