Cafayate is one of the best-known wine regions of Argentina and is located in the Calchaquí Valleys, which is well-known for its stunning red rocks, cragged canyons, and towering mountains. The dry and arid landscape of the mountainous desert is mixed with many luscious, stretching vineyards dotting the land which are sat at some of the highest altitudes for vineyards in the world. The deep green of the vineyards is juxtaposed by the rust red of the rocks which rise up behind them and glow in the sunlight.
The signature grape of this region is Torrontés, which creates a wine so refreshing that other Argentinian wine regions order this specific grape from Cafayate. The weather in Cafayate is good throughout the year. A warmer season tends to last from October to March, and sees daily temperatures above 24°C, with January – the warmest month of the year – reaching above 25°C. No matter the time of year, the high altitude means daytime and nighttime temperatures vary a lot – it is common for nighttime temperatures to be at least 10°C colder than during the day. In the cooler season from April to September, daytime temperatures are usually just below 20°C, and nighttime temperatures dip to under 10°C.
During the coldest month of the year, July, nighttime temperatures dip to under 5°C. There is very low rainfall throughout the year but the period from December to February tends to see the most rain of the year. Warm clothing is advised throughout the year in preparation for chilly nights.
The standard rooms at Viñas de Cafayate are basic, yet warm and inviting. The rooms are filled with bright light which flows through wide windows, and fresh breezes fill the room when the door to the terrace is open. There is air conditioning to help keep guests cool during the warmer months, and all the rooms come with an ensuite bathroom which includes a bathtub. Guests can choose from two double rooms – one with a view of Cerro, and one with a view of the vineyards and Quebrada de Cafayate. There are also two types of triple rooms available – one with a view across to Cerro San Isidro, and one with a view of the vineyards and Quebrada de Cafayate.
The Superior Rooms at Viñas de Cafayate are modern and spacious, including a queen or a king-size bed which sits in the centre of the room and is covered in cosy bed sheets and plump pillows. All Superior Rooms come with a private bathroom which includes a bathtub, perfect for relaxing after a long day spent exploring your surroundings. These rooms come with a private balcony which has panoramic views over the vineyard and Quebrada de Cafayate rising up in the background.

Being a wine region, Cafayate has a selection of wineries guests can visit during their stay at Viñas de Cafayate. A few wineries in the area include the traditional and distinguished Etchart, Domingo Hermanos, and Etchart, and the independent luxury wineries such as El Souvenir, Finca Las Nubes, and Jose Luis Mounier.
Guests can enjoy an afternoon spent playing golf on a course designed by Bob Cupp, which utilises the natural land and native grasses. This course is 18 holes, and also includes a driving range.
There are a variety of wellness options at Viñas de Cafayate including a one-hour yoga and wine session amongst the vineyard. Align your chakras and stretch your body in the fresh Argentinian air before finishing the session with a glass of high-altitude Torrontés wine. Massages can also be booked in advance.
Viñas de Cafayate has many measures to make sure they are operating as eco-friendly and sustainable as possible. A towel policy reduces the amount of water used in washing, and Viñas separate their black and grey water to reuse the grey water for irrigation in their gardens. One of these gardens is the organic vegetable garden, which provides the hotel with their own fresh produce. A solar system is utilised to heat all their rooms, and 100% of the lights utilise LED bulbs, which are more energy efficient. Instead of using single-use hotel amenities they use refillable bottles, and fill them with organic soaps which don’t use chemicals or paragons.
