Located in the heart of the pristine jungle is Cuña Pirú Lodge. The lodge is built in an environmentally friendly way, with local materials and methods creating a lodge which blends into its surroundings and offers a welcoming yet rustic atmosphere. With only 4 cabins, the maximum capacity is 16 people, so guests will feel as if they have the forest to themselves. Guests can spend their days exploring the luscious forest and finding many of the sparkling hidden waterfalls, or staff can help arrange an excursion to Iguazu Falls – a breathtaking tiered waterfall. After days spent hiking through the forest, guests can return to the lodge to take a break from the humidity in the sparkling swimming pool, or enjoy a gentle swing in their hammock.

Misiones in northeastern Argentina is a forest lover’s dream. It is home to many well-known attractions, including Iguazu Falls, which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, and the Paranaense Forest, which is the largest pristine forest in Argentina. The Paranaense Forest is a biodiverse haven – holding 52% of Argentina’s biodiversity. This forest, as well as other forests in Misiones, includes thick green, tropical trees and brushes, small streams winding through the forest, and – especially in the Parque Provincial Salto Encantado – hidden waterfalls. Encantado waterfall awaits guests who are hiking through the pristine forest. Animals in this area include howler monkeys, jaguars, otters, glass frogs, opossums, squirrels, and porcupines, as well as an astonishing 564 species of bird.

The weather in Misiones falls into the pattern of a subtropical climate with high humidity and plentiful rain throughout the year. December to February are the summer months, and temperatures rise dramatically with highs of 32°C, with the rainfall acting as a welcome break from the heat. The winter months last from roughly June to August. This is the time of year when temperatures can dip to below 10°C, July – the coldest month – sees recorded highs of 21°C. While it rains throughout the year, October is the rainiest month so if you plan on partaking in a lot of hiking this may not be the best time to travel. Sturdy walking shoes are advised year-round, as are layers and waterproof clothing.
The cabins at Cuña Pirú are spacious and cosy, with a bedroom area, living area, kitchen, bathroom, and expansive terrace immersed in the heart of the forest. Comfortable double beds are covered in crisp bed linens and cosy pillows for guests’ comfort, and wide windows throughout the cabin fill the space with natural and bright light. The kitchen is fully equipped and comes complete with a minibar – so guests can cater for themselves. After a long day exploring the forest guests can unwind with a gentle swing in their hammock, closing their eyes and breathing in the fresh air – truly immersing themselves in nature.
For a truly unique experience, guests can stay in the Tree Rooms at Cuña Pirú. These rooms are the same as the Cabins except they are high in the treetops and are accessed by a wooden staircase. A queen-size bed offers guests a comfortable night’s sleep under crisp bed linens, and the room also comes complete with a bathroom, living room, terrace and kitchen – which includes a minibar. Guests can unwind on the terrace, getting lost staring through the tree tops and truly immersing themselves in the beautiful nature.
Perfect for families, the Double Rooms are expansive and comfortable. The beds are covered with crisp and cosy bed linens and the room is filled with bright and natural light. The natural wood cabin is filled with local and colourful ornaments which add character. The Double Rooms come complete with their own bathroom and a terrace which stretches along the front of the cabin, where guests can unwind and gaze over their stunning surroundings after a long day spent exploring.
Guests can enjoy meals in the main lodge. Head here for a fresh breakfast and delicious gourmet dinners made with fresh ingredients. If the weather is good guests can enjoy eating outside on the decking or around the swimming pool, in the middle of the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest.
There are countless attractions to see in the nearby area. The ancient Guarani rainforest is full of hidden gems just waiting to be found by guests. Spend your days wandering through the jungle – immersing yourself in the wilderness. Visit nearby yerba mate and tea factories and see how these local products are produced. Visits to the nearby Mbyá Guarani Communities can be arranged for guests who wish to learn more about the local culture.
The forest is also full of hidden history and guests can hike to the ruins of San Ignacio – an old Jesuit settlement. There are many waterfalls guests may stumble on during their treks through the forest or guests may wish to make their way to Salto Encantado, Iguazu Falls, or the spectacular Saltos del Moconá – which is slightly further out, on the border with Brazil.
Cuña Pirú Lodge tries to promote responsible practices and environmental engagement in all areas of the lodge. A large effort has gone into preserving and protecting the culture of the communities around the lodge. The design of the hotel follows regional construction guidelines, is made with natural materials from the area and blends into the landscape. The lodge is filled with ornaments and decorations from a local firm which promotes ethical and fair work. Many of the lodges’ excursions and tours are designed and led by local tour guides who know the area. The knowledge they share will deepen guests’ understanding of the importance of conservation.
