The Franschhoek wine valley features a number of wineries and rolling vineyards. Many of the wine farms still have their original French names and are home to a range of fine beverages such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Chenin Blanc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Merlot. Guests can visit the wine cellars and embark on organised tours and tastings, broadening your palette to amazing South African vintages.

The climate in Franschhoek is warm during the southern hemisphere’s summers with temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees, and winter is often cool with showers and lows of 8 degrees. Guests are advised to bring layers as the evenings can be chilly, and protection against the sun such as hats, sunglasses and sunscreen.

The Leeu Learning Centre

The Leeu Collection established the Leeu Learning Centre, to serve as a safe space where younger people living in the Franschhoek valley can access free, quality online education and assistance with homework. By providing modern equipment and technology to aid with learning and professional support, children are able to develop their skills quickly and access a wealth of information online. Becoming more confident with computers is essential as the world’s workplace moves into a digital age, and by expanding their knowledge, the children at Leeu Learning Centre are able to broaden their career opportunities. Older students can also use computers for job and educational applications which are only available online.

The Leeu Learning Centre is open from 9 am until 7 pm each weekday, providing a quiet study space for children who may not have this at home. As well as modern computers, the centre also features printing and photocopying equipment, and a small library which is currently being expanded.

Kusasa Project Early Learning Centre

The Leeu Collection supports the Franschhoek-based Kusasa Project Early Learning Centre, a school that currently helps 120 children from disadvantaged backgrounds. The project aims to help children with their educational and personal development in the crucial early years, building the starting blocks for their education and helping to end the cycle of poverty.

‘We look to raise the quality of education in the community in order to develop literate, compassionate, respectful, communicative, imaginative, multi-lingual students who are well prepared to make a positive impact in the future. Using a “whole-child” approach, our teachers begin with the understanding that each child deserves to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged to reach their potential.’

Children of all ages are welcome at Leeu House.
